Join us at The Turnpike in Leigh, Greater Manchester to celebrate the next exhibition opening in our tour of the North.
The Turnpike presents Horse Day by artist Mohamed Bourouissa – a film installation which focuses on a North Philadelphian community’s efforts at neighbourhood revitalisation. Inspired by US photographer Martha Camarillo’s photographs of horsemen in an impoverished Philadelphia neighbourhood, Bourouissa travelled there to see the urban stables. For eight months the artist observed, drew and photographed the riders, whilst working collaboratively with the community to create Horse Day (2014-2015). The video documents an extraordinary equestrian event and its preparations, acting as an examination of how society is structured and social processes are activated.
This exhibition is presented as part of the Liverpool Biennial touring programme, which brings artworks by international artists presented at the 2018 festival of contemporary art to spaces across the North of England.
