Join curators Sunny Cheung (Liverpool Biennial) and Susan Lord (Bury Art Museum) at the opening of this exhibition for an introduction to the works of Aslan Gaisumov and Janice Kerbel.
Communication is a recurrent theme in the multidisciplinary practice of Canadian artist Janice Kerbel. The starting point for her human-sized silkscreen posters is how fights can both erupt and dissipate, regardless of context or setting. Next door, Aslan Gaisumov’s critically acclaimed Keicheyuhea traces the struggles and turbulent histories of the Chechen people. The film follows the artist’s grandmother as she returns to her lost homeland in the mountainous scenery of the North Caucasus for the first time since the displacement of her family 73 years earlier.
The exhibition is part of the Liverpool Biennial touring programme, which brings works by international artists presented at the 2018 festival of contemporary art to spaces across the North of England.
