Earlier this week, we hosted the premiere of Stine Marie Jacobsen's 'Future, Before It Happens' at St Anne's Catholic Primary School Liverpool, with the children who were involved in the project.

The children were able to sit down with their fellow classmates and see the characters and machines they designed come to life in the film. Stine zoomed in live from Berlin for the VIP event and refreshments included fizzy orange and blackcurrant.

To create the work, the children imagined ways of tackling climate change using wellbeing techniques such as meditation and breathing exercises developed by the artist. Their ideas are expressed through drawings and objects animated and brought to life.

In the film, we are guided on a journey to the future co-written with the children, where we can visualise solutions to the current climate crisis and are encouraged to work together to make a positive change.

The artist has also designed a free, downloadable toolkit for children aged 8-12 that includes 12 ‘missions’ designed to help young people imagine alternative scenarios for the future in the context of a climate emergency.  The film and toolkit are now available to view online at the links below.

‘Future, Before it Happens’ will be on display at Bluecoat throughout the Summer Holidays and is accompanied by a series of free family workshops, kindly supported by SEVENSTORE. Head to biennial.com/events for more information.
