Earlier this year, we ran workshops with the local schools involved in the 'Merseyside Totemy' project - Formby High, Studio School and Wirral Hospital School - to think about ways to repurpose the artwork to avoid materials going to landfill.

Whilst two have been gifted to Formby High and Wirral Hospital School for display, we wanted to transform the remaining totem into useful objects that could be used by the schools for years to come.

To repurpose the totem, we worked with Castle Fine Arts Foundry to split it into sections, creating planters of various sizes to be installed at the schools. We then collaborated with the wonderful B4biodiversity team to run workshops on soil with the students, before everybody pitched in to fill the plant pots and plant seeds together.

With thanks to Liverpool BID Company, ARUP and Castle Fine Arts Foundry for their support on this project.
