The Visual Arts Board (VAB) offers a residency in a studio at Static Trading Co, Liverpool, and associated accommodation in an apartment in Liverpool city centre. The grant covers airfares, living allowance and other sundries.

Studio
A 40.5 m2 work studio (with a 20.25 m2 mezzanine) at Static Trading Co, Liverpool, which is centrally located and a partner to Liverpool Biennial, which acts as sponsor and host to Visual Arts Board artists in residence.

Static houses nine studios in a converted garage complex in Liverpool city centre, close to FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology), restaurants and bars. Studios are rented to artists, designers and architects, and the organisation invites a wide variety of cultural producers and institutions to take part in projects, events, exchanges and residencies.

The studio has natural light, 24hr access, electrical points, heating, wireless internet, and is furnished with a desk and chair. The Static complex has a main gallery space with a fully integrated PA system, 2 x data projectors, DVD and VHS players, and a library.

Artists funded by the Visual Arts Board work independently alongside the Liverpool Biennial’s program of commissions and are able to benefit from the relationships and experience of the Biennial staff, who provide two production support days per week to artists in residence. Liverpool Biennial has a wide range of partnerships with museums and galleries, technical suppliers and communities.

Apartment
Liverpool Biennial leases the associated apartment on behalf of the Visual Arts Board. Accommodation is in a furnished double-bedroom apartment in a central location, with bathroom and fully equipped kitchen. The apartment is suitable for a single artist or couple.

Local Area
Liverpool’s ‘never-say-die’ appetite continues unbridled after a successful year as European Capital of Culture in 2008. A new museum, photography gallery and the oldest passenger railway station in the world are due to (re-)open, with most museums, galleries and shops within walking distance in the city centre.
